Time to end Weitzel case
Having followed the Weitzel case from
it's inception, I find it is time to end this legal fiasco. Let Dr. Robert
Weitzel and the families of the deceased move on with their lives and have
members of the legal system in Utah pursue more worthwhile cases that will
protect and help the people they are sworn to serve.
There has been no evidence of any criminal intent, financial gain, motive or
intentionally trying to murder anyone. Dr. Weitzel is in no way another Dr.
Kevorkian, trying to promote euthanasia. He certainly has made some mistakes in
judgment during his medical career, but nothing to label him as a murderer or a
criminal.
Weitzel has already paid a high price. He was a highly trained and qualified
physician who is no longer able to practice his chosen profession. He has lost
all his material possessions, including his home and savings.
He has lost many of his so-called friends and professional relationships
because of the controversy regarding this case. The case has taken a huge
emotional, financial and physical toll on an individual who is basically a
decent person and a qualified health-care professional.
It is time to move on. It is time to end this case and let the families
involved grieve. It is time for Weitzel to reflect on all that has happened and
use the experience in a positive fashion to make him a more caring and competent
physician and human being.
It is time to let him end this nightmare chapter in his life and move on. It
is also time to utilize the financial resources of the State of Utah in a more
productive fashion.
I hope in the end, that sanity and a sense of justice will prevail.
