Ogden Standard Examiner Opinion

Weitzel is honorable, and a good skier to boot

The case against Robert Weitzel, the local physician accused of
murder, appears to be a sad case of the Davis County prosecutor's
office having nothing better to do than waste tax dollars because of
a few egos caught up in the process.
Other doctors reviewing Weitzel's case found that he administered
completely standard care. That the prosecutors would attempt to drag
Dr. Weitzel through a second trial after themselves concealing
evidence in the first trial, certainly highlights their intentions.
Now they are drumming up other charges, claiming Dr. Weitzel took
            morphine for himself.
I had the honor of skiing with Dr. Weitzel last winter. He had
recently gotten out of prison after a mistrial was called. Dr.
Weitzel struck me as a most unlikely candidate for drug abuse. He
clearly takes excellent care of his health and worked out even while
in prison. He told me about the many books he read there and
discussed the deplorable conditions and hopelessness we have created
at Point of the Mountain and what might be done to improve it.
Dr. Weitzel appeared to me a man of honor and integrity. In
addition, he is an excellent skier with extraordinary endurance. I
would trust this individual without hesitation if I needed medical
            help.
